I am a strict and nitpicky reviewer, though I try not to be atrocious. Most of the time, anyways.

However, I don't feel obligated to give authors of badfic any more respect than they have shown to their readers. I am convinced that if someone posts a story without checking spelling, grammar, and facts it is negligence. Negligence is a punishable offense in most countries' lawbooks. Why should I be any nicer than litigation lawyers? Should my reviews not be seen as a favour I am doing the authors, to teach them the value of high-quality work?

While I do occasionally indulge in such self-righteous ramblings, my true opinion, pure and simple, is that I don't care how the author reacts to my review. I am interested in expressing my opinion. If the author wants to improve, I am willing to help, most of the time. If the author wants to flame me, it might even be entertaining. If the author ignores my review altogether, it is no my problem. Therefore, I have nothing to loose and a lot to gain.

Interestingly enough, I have never been flamed, and 99% of people reacted adequately to my reviews. I guess, it has to do with the sense of humour. Those authors who have it are able to understand that I am not completely serious in my reviews, and I am not as caustic as I might seem to be. As to others... To quote a random Russian guy, "If they want hemorroid that bad, let them get it." :)
