(no subject)

I spent most of last night and most of today trying to resuscitate my failing laptop. First the mouse started acting weird, then it lost internet connection and couldn't open half the programs or write to CD. I used the camera's memory card to back up the photos and thanked my good sense of taking time to e-mail myself all the important documents before I lost the connectivity - I thought I will have to reboot Windows to factory setting. My persistence paid off though, when I found a way to reboot from a saved point (it wasn't working until I figured out a way to get to the safe mode - it was tricky since the shutdown and the reboot weren't working either). Still, it was unpleasant and made me nervous and evil. And reminded me why I have always preferred working with people to working with machines: you can tell people what to do and they will do it, and with machines you have to figure a way to fix something.
