Another 2008 meme

1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Travelled with a ferry boat. Flew in a helicopter. Cooked a lot of things I have never made before, like schnitzel and plov. Saw a flying peacock. Gave a real exam at a real university. Went through a certification course. Got a real job. Was in a wheelchair (in the airport, with a twisted ankle - not a pleasant experience).

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any. But I failed at self-improvement once again. I may just do like Garfield does, say that I am perfect as is and stop being bothered, but I am not that far gone yet.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yep, belko-camuray, a near and dear friend of mine for almost 15 years. :)

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not this year, thankfully. But we were all shocked when my parents' neighbour from across the street committed suicide.

5. What countries did you visit?
For the first time: the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Canada. Repeat: Germany.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Eh... fall in love, maybe? I really do have everything.

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Nothing that major happened.

8. What was your biggest achievement of this year?
Getting a real job and staying sane. And becoming a certified competitive intelligence professional.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I am just az lazy and disorganized today as I have always been. I have a nagging feeling I will die that way too, but a girl can still hope, right?

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I twisted my ankle in May, that was unpleasant.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Well, besides my vacation in Europe and on Niagara, my new laptop.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I don't know about celebration... but I want to use this space to say that I adore all my friends, family, my boss and my mentor. Happy New Year!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
A lot of random people who I am not going to care about. And me.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, student loans, and travel.

15. What did you get really, really excited about?
My travels, especially Europe, Boston, and Niagara.

16. What songs will always remind you of 2008?
I completely lack associative thinking ability.

17. Compared to this time last year,
i. are you happier or sadder? About the same, 90% happy 90% of the time.
ii. thinner or fatter? Probably about the same. Plus or minus couple pounds here or there don't matter anyways.
iii. richer or poorer? Helluva lot richer. I have real salary now, not post-doc stipend like last year.
iv older or wiser? Both. I looked at my letter of intent written two years ago and thought that I would do so many things differently now... so definitely wiser, and calendar says older, too.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
SLEEP. But I know it's an empty dream... And I probably should have gone out to the City more, but I am lazy, I know.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Slacking off at work. Oh, how I wish I did less of that...

20. How will you be spending New Years Eve?
Spent it nice and cozy with my parents.

21. Did you fall in love in 2008?
No. Didn't even try.

22. How many one-night stands?
I am not that desperate.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Champion's League? I don't watch much TV.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't do hating. I just deal with annoying morons as soon as possible and forget their sorry existence.

25. What was the best book you read?
I didn't read a lot of new books for fun, I would say Тяжелый Песок and The Kite Runner would be the two good ones, at least, them I can remember.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Eh? I am not into music that much.

27. What did you want and get?
I wanted a lot of things, most of which I can no longer remember, and I am pretty sure I got almost everything I wanted... The highlight would be the three-week vacatio in Europe and the new laptop.

28. What did you want and not get?
Become more organized and responsible. And properly clean my apartment before New Year's. And the five-week nice vacation before starting real job (only got three weeks).

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Let's see what I can remember watching... Ratatouille, I would say.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was packing my suitcase and flying to Europe on the day when I turned 25. Never spent a birthday in the airplane before, I must say.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Winning a hundred million dollar lottery?

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?

33. What kept you sane?
You, my friendses, you. Including the offline ones.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Still Totti. :D

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
They are more economical and pharma-related ones.

36. Who did you miss?
All my friends and family who I didn't get to see, or didn't get to see as much/as long/as often as I would have liked to. But most of all, my favorite cousin. Hopefully I will get to see him in the summer of 2009.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
tigressita and some of my ACI classmates.  Also, if you count those people I have known for years and years but didn't get to meet in person until this past year, eowyn_unquendor .

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
If you lay the groundwork, and wait patiently, everything will work out for the best.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
As I said before, I lack associative thinking.

40. Single greatest moment of 2008?
As always, those moments when I can feel the world revolving around me and know that on those days I can do everything, and my will be done.  On one hand, it's a pity I only have days like that once or twice a year, on the other hand, had they come more often, I would loose the ability to live normally.  Besides, I should be grateful I get them at all, most people probably don't.
