Globetrotting & free lunches

If you were given the opportunity to spend two weeks in any country in the world free of charge, which country would you choose, and why?

The UK, because it is so damn expensive, so if I get to go on someone else's dime, I would jump on it. I am planning to go in 2012 and I will have to pay for everything myself. Unless I marry a millionaire, not that they are ligning up under my windows. Or maybe they are (seeing as one of my windows faces our local boardwalk), but I would never know, would I?

All the places that I really, really, really wanted to visit, I have visited already. And the list of places I want to visit is very, very long indeed. I suppose, if this were to be my first (and perhaps for a long time only) foreign trip, I would have chosen Germany. Because that was my first true trip abroad. Granted, that was through my university's summer study abroad program, so it was a lot cheaper than other options would have been. I always liked German food, culture, language... and that was one of the countries I have known the most about, so I felt very comfortable there.

On the unrelated note, I have developed an pretty good sense for when I could score a free lunch. Didn't buy lunch twice this week. Both days there were leftovers in the kitchen by 1:30pm. Today I was exceptionally lucky with the variety. Not only I got both roast beef and ham sandwiches but there were even some pineapple chunks still in the fruit salad. Normally, pineapple gets picked out first (and I am as guilty of this as any other person). And black-and-white cookies. And salad. Nice, isn't it?
